Our MissionSanta Barbara County FIrefighters Benevolent Foundation Mission Statement
The Santa Barbara County Firefighters Benevolent Foundation was formed to provide financial relief for families of firefighters stricken in the line of duty, fund scholarships for children of deceased firefighters, create and maintain a firefighter’s memorial, establish a means of receiving contributions from individuals and businesses interested in funding Santa Barbara County Fire Department projects and equipment, and assisting with the well being of the members of the Department.
The Benevolent Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation organized and directed by a panel of 9 firefighters. These firefighters are divided into four Officers and a five member Board of Directors. All of these individuals donate their time to ensure that the vision of the Foundation and the fiduciary responsibilities associated with the organization are maintained. The Board also receives input from a retired member who acts on an advisory level. Benevolent Foundation Board of Directors
Funding for the Foundation is accomplished through a variety of means. 100% of the operating costs are covered by the firefighters of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department. Funding is secured through a payroll deduction which allows firefighters to make voluntary automatic bi-weekly contributions when they receive their paycheck.
Another main source of funding is the annual Benevolent Foundation Golf Tournament. Started in 2004, the golf tournament is made possible by donations from many area businesses. The tournament is attended by many firefighters throughout the county and from other agencies in southern California. All of the proceeds go directly towards strengthening the financial stability of the SBCFBF and to allow for increasing benefits. The Foundation is also funded by contributions from citizens and businesses served by the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
It is the goal of the Santa Barbara County Firefighters Benevolent Foundation to be there in times of need for the members of the department. Whether it be condolences, financial or logistical support, the SBCFBF wants the members to be secure in knowing that they will be there to provide assistance in times of need.
